Trapdoor Social make music on a grand scale, with massive choruses and swells that echo their influences Muse and Death Cab for Cutie (incidentally, Death Cab drummer Jason McGerr is featured on the EP).
In regards to the band’s genre-hopping sensibilities, Merritt states, “I listen to a lot of classical and medieval choral music, and at least feeling-wise I think it’s starting to creep in to our latest stuff.” A perfect example of that is the band’s video for the single “Away.” Playing like a hybrid of Workaholics meets LARPers (Live Action Role Players), “Away” perfectly captures the giddy and exhilarating world of Trapdoor Social.
