For the uninitiated, the Creative Loafing cover story on Sleepy Vikings does a great job of illustrating the control and out-of-control that makes the band unique on the musical landscape and easily adored. In the piece, the band talks about having to hurriedly finish writing a set of songs to play its first show ever – a chance opportunity in 2009 to open for the Vivian Girls.
The success of this risk led to an opportunity to perform in Canada at NXNE, a show they drove 26 hours to play in front of a half-dozen people. Turns out that half of that half were bloggers who loved the set, leading to an invite for Sleepy Vikings to perform in the Paste Magazine offices.
