The guys on the ETS Music News show talked about Live Nation and their high cost for ticket prices. You can get around their prices, sort of. The last concert I went to was The Cure at the Hollywood Bowl. The tickets were pricey, but it is The Cure, so who cares? Unless it is huge band like that, then I’d rather go to see indie rock bands! I have seen countless bands perform and never paid more than $20. I’ve seen: Inara George, Ingrid Michaelson, Idlewild, Rilo Kiley/Jenny Lewis, Meiko, Jim Bianco, Rachel Yamagata and countless others. I think the highest price was $20 for Ingrid Michaelson. These are incredible artists/bands that you can see in an intimate setting (and many times meet them) for a fraction of the cost of some of the other bands. Seeing music created in front of you is one of the most amazing things, in my opinion. I am not going to lie, my favorite singer is Inara George, and I have seen her about 5 times. I’ve taken the liberty of posting some of my pictures as evidence. Each time I’ve paid less than $15. She actually remembered me a few times, which was amazing! At one of her shows, I was going to the little cowboys room and ran into PJ Harvey backstage. That same night I even ran into Jackson Browne (Rock & Roll Hall of Fame)! It was amazing. My friends and I always have these types of stories! I have an excellent story about Rachael Yamagata that I’ll write someday! Do you ever have those types of stories with your favorite groups? You should check out independent artists because often times you can see them for less money, in an intimate setting and many times you get to meet them! If you are new or want to check out this genre here are a few places you should turn to: KCRW MBE, Paste Magazine, NPR: World Cafe, WXPN, Indie 103.
