Girl Talk :: “All Day”

Here’s a review from EnterTheShell.com’s latest addition, Matt!

Girl Talk

Illegal Art: All Day

Do this at your next house party: have a friend dress up like a DJ and set up equipment in a corner of your living room, put on this album, and have one of the most talked about parties of the year. If you are a fan of music mash-ups, the latest effort from Girl Talk will have your head exploding. All Day is a non-stop barrage of beats and samples mixed together to create perfect harmony. It is intense to say the least. Every moment keeps you on your toes with familiar clips from the past half century in music at every twist and turn.

If you aren’t familiar with mash-ups, blend together beats from the latest Usher, synth riff’s from your favorite Flock of Seagulls song, vocals and random clips from Lil’ Weezy to create something completely different and fun.  For example, All Day starts off with guitar borrowed from Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs,” combined with Ludacris’ vocals from “Move Bitch,” throw in a few clips from Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind,” and you have the first 30 seconds. Continue the same variety for 70 more minutes and you have the one of the best party mixes on the planet.

A personal favorite clip is a combo of 90’s hard core rap classic “Ante Up” combined with Miley Cirus’ “Party in the USA.” Who knew she could be so gangster? “Ante Up, hit that fool, Ante Up, kidnap that fool.” This album is also great for introducing you to artists you may have never heard of (or given a chance before), and re-uniting you with songs you haven’t heard in over a decade.

To be honest, All Day is simply exhausting, but fun…a lot of fun and for the price of on the house, via Illegal Art’s website. There should be no reason Girl Talk’s All Day is not in your iTunes library.
