Artist of the Week The Blogs

Artist of the Year

In the Los Angeles music scene, there is no one who has done more in 2010 than Lucy Schwartz!  From releasing her sophomore album, touring with Lilith Fair and recording a song for Shrek 4, Lucy Schwartz is Enter the Shell’s inaugural Artist of the Year!

Her year started off well, by releasing the Ep “Help Me Help Me!” in January.  The five-track Ep features the songs Gravity, and a cover of Otis Redding’s “Respect.”  In February, she joined Turrtle and Justin on the phone, where she revealed her fear of butterflies?

As she prepared for the release of “Life & Letters,” several opportunities came her way.  She went on tour with the Lilith Fair.  Lucy also recorded the music video for “Gravity” with Sonia from “So You Think You Can Dance?”

One of the standout moments (at least for me) came on May 21st when Shrek Forever After was released in the theater.  What was so significant about that?  Lucy and Landon Pigg recorded a duet for the movie “Darling I Do.”  Obviously, the song was recorded prior to that, and on May 18, the two of them performed the song live on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”

As Lucy hit the road with Lilith, she was preparing to release her sophomore album.  On September 21st, Lucy held her album release party, where she was joined on stage with: Lady Danville, A Fine Frenzy, Aqualung, and The Rescues.  A week later, her album hit “tha streetz.”

In October, the ETS crew packed up our bags and went to Lucy’s home for our first in-studio performance.  She played a couple of tracks and joined the crew for the full podcast!  This must have been the highlight of her year/career!  Click here to re-live the magic!

Also in October, Lucy joined the Weepies on tour, where she hit the Pacific Northwest.  Her music video for “Graveyard” also won a contest for MTVU.    Lucy also has two songs eligible for an Oscar:  Darling I Do (Shrek) and Little One (Mother & Child).

What a better way to cap off the year than a New Year’s Eve performance with Brandi Carlile.  Lucy will be opening for Carlile in Oregan to close out the year.  2010 was a great year for Lucy, and I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more from Lucy in 2011!
