Artist of the Week- Said, The Whale

The Canadian group, Said the Whale, may be the best kept secret from Canada.  Although the band is making a great music, it is only a matter of time that this talented quintet becomes more known by their music rather than their name.  Said the Whale released their sophomore album, “Islands Disappear,” in 2009, but are now starting to make a splash here in the U.S. and overseas.

Although the band is relatively new, they formed in 2007, the band has undergone some transformation since their inception.  Starting out as a duo and now as a 5 piece band, Said the Whale is ready to unleash their potential.  Their first single “Camilo (The Magician)” was one of the most played on Canada’s rock radio stations.  The band was also nominated for several Juno Awards.

Said the Whale blends ethereal sounds, with a pop-rock sound, much like Of Montreal.   Their sophomore album was produced by Howard Redekopp (Tegan and Sara, The New Pornographers).  Their sound is catching the ears of some very important people.  Grant Lawrence of CBC Radio 3, One of Canada’s premier radio stations.  Said the Whale will be showcased in the mother of all Indie festivals:  SXSW.

Luckily, for us here in Los Angeles, we will have a chance to catch this up and coming band as they travel to the left coast in support of their album.  The band will be in Los Angeles on March 10th, 12th, and 23rd.  The band will also be touring up in Seattle and Oregan throughout March.  Check out their official website below for more information on tour dates.
