This week’s Artist of the Week comes to us from all over the world, but they are currently residing here in semi-sunny LA! Who are these guys? They are one of the best bands you may not know, HoneyChild. HoneyChild has caught the attention of yours truly with their release Nearer The Earth.
The formation of the band was not like most bands, but as Tobias Jesso (Guitars & Vocals) puts it, “The formation of the band was a total whirlwind.” Coming from all over the world and from various backgrounds in music, the band has formed a unique sound that is sure to catch your attention. Although they’ve been influenced by Neil Young and Simon & Garfunkel, they do not have the typical folk, singer-songwriter sound. Their influences can be heard all over the record but they’ve added another dimension, which makes them stand out.
The band recorded Nearer The Earth in Reseda, Ca. using a laptop and two mics. When you hear the album, it has a lot of depth and layers of sound, it is hard to imagine that they produced the album in such a simple way.
The track “Away We Go” is the stand out song on the album. This song should be played on a 750 day, driving down PCH, with the top down and this track blaring out your car! is your typically Sunday drive song.
There is no way to define HoneyChild’s sound. The only thing I can say is that it is just good music. Tracks like “The Drive Song,” “Tijuana” and “Don’t Take My Home,” make you realize how much our ears are distorted by radio airplay. HoneyChild is currently working on another album, and if it is anything like their last, then we have something to look forward to in 2011!
Top 3 Songs
