Artist of the Week- Greg Holden

Since I began working at this website, it has been my goal to introduce our readers/listeners to new music; especially Indie Music. Since I began my blogs, I’ve been exposed to more great musicians than I could’ve ever dreamed of, including this week’s Artist of the Week Greg Holden.

Often times, when we hear music, we are listening to a finished product. We often times don’t get to see the struggles behind the scenes or get a chance to see how much work it takes to record an album. Why do I bring this up? Former ETS guest and all around good guy, Greg Holden, is raising money to record his new album. Upon hearing of this news, it took me back. Often times we (I), throw around the word “Indie” and forget the true meaning of the word. Greg is taking me back there and reminding me why I listen to this music.

Greg is trying to raise money and is asking his fans to help. Greg is an amazing singer/songwriter from the UK and he is an even better live. Greg pours his heart out on every track and now he is asking us to pour our hearts and money for a worthy cause. Greg is giving away some goodies with every dollar you donate. Heck, if you donate $10k he’ll put a tattoo with your name on his body, whatta steal!

While Greg is busy raising money, let’s go back to what makes him so great: The Music. Greg embodies the true meaning of a singer/songwriter by carrying around his guitar and jumping on stage. Once on stage, you immediately get drawn into his voice, as he sings so passionately to the crowd. The crowd goes quiet and hangs on his every word as he sings: “I would jump ship/ For those mountains/Cause I’ve been counting/ The minutes since I left that little town….Thinking of you/ You’ve got a hold of me and I’m/ Thinking of you/ Something is pulling me and I’m/ Thinking of you/ Are you thinking of me too?”

Here at ETS our slogan is “The Music Movement,” and I couldn’t think of a better way to tie in our slogan than with Greg Holden. If we want to stay clear of the garbage that the radio feeds the average listener, then we must support talented artists such as these. There are thousands of artists just like Greg who rely on their fans to help with their records. Many Indie musicians aren’t backed by major labels. It is harder for them to book studio time, get their CDs pressed, and many of the miscellaneous things that record labels generally help artists out with.
