“Vision-like recollections are the core of my perception,” Andrew St. James says of the inspiration for “Visions,” the latest track from his debut album Doldrums, out now. “I wrote it at a party in the Mission late last year. I have a funny little recording of it on my phone from that night. You can hear the party wailing in the background and a terribly out of tune piano. I freestyled the lyrics, but most of them ended up on the album anyway.”
Incorporating a beyond-his-years lyrical vision with a unique gift for melody-making on Doldrums, 18-year-old St. James is emerging from the fog-enshrouded misty hills of San Francisco’s Twin Peaks. His music lands firmly in the alternative folk world, but displays a real knack for timeless songwriting skills.
