Kanye West, the music industry’s most polarizing personality, is back with his highly anticipated fifth full-length album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
There is no doubt that West garners himself enough attention with his away-from-the-mic antics alone, but the music he produces (behind the boards as well as in the booth) backs up every boojie word that comes out of his mouth.
Fantasy is a perfect mixture of classic Kanye, which are the tracks that show off his wit, sense of humor and flow (“Dark Fantasy”; “Monster”; “Hell of a Life”) and artsy Kanye, the tracks fulfill his need to paint a visual/aural picture for the listener (“Runaway”; “All of the Lights”; “Lost in the World/Who Will Survive in America?”).
Those who are fans of West’s classic College Dropout and Late Registration will be glad to know that he’s back, but he seamlessly intertwines his 808’s and Heartbreaks pipes between the lines he’s spitting.
“All of the Lights” and “Lost in the World” are epic pieces and the album’s highlights, the former features a long list of music industry heavyweights, including but not limited to: Fergie, Rihanna, Elton John, John Legend, Charlie Wilson and Alicia Keys.
Though this is the first Kanye West album with no skip-worthy tracks, it’s not the best of his career, nor is it the best of the year. The album is artistic, creative and very well produced. This is an evolved Kanye and I like where he’s going musically, but nothing beats classic Kanye.

I still don’t like him….and to be honest, I fail to see the genius in his music……….Maybe I just can’t see beyond the fact that he is a douche bag
Well, I think he has an open mind when it comes to accepting and bringing in artistic values. The only time I have ever called him a genius was in a debate I had right after the whole Taylor Swift thing. You have to admit, he is a publicity GENIUS.
LOL…I do admit that his antics crack me up sometimes and the one time I liked him was when he said Bush didn’t like black people….Publicity genius yes, but musically…Nnnnaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…
