Guys. That was a hell of a weekend. Lots of drinking, lots of partying, pranks and punches galore. Nothing like being shaken awake after an all-nighter and having your friends snap pictures of you. My body still hurts. I feel like I fell off a truck onto my face. It’s not a good feeling. I can’t shake a party weekend like I used to. Memories get hazy. Shady moves were made. Who knows what actually went down in those 3 nights? I do know that Return of The Mack was played 4 times at the wedding and I like that.
Since this all went down I have been hard up to listen to rockin tunes. They just make my head hurt. I need something smooth and old timey. For that I turned to a newer artist out of Vermont that I really have been enjoying. This weeks ARTIST OF THE WEEK: Sam Amidon. He won me over with his song Fair Damsel off of his album I See The Sign. It quiets thunder in my head. I appreciate that.
He’s like Alexi Murdoch but with a little more gusto. I need that gusto otherwise I just get bored. Amidon was born in 1981 and was basically thrust into the world of traditional folk music right out of the womb as you can see his parents here.
I just started listening to this guy on Tuesday and it’s been immensely enjoyable. I’ve torn through his albums Bright Sunny South as well as I See The Sign. His roots may be in traditional folk, but his playing style is harks back to older bluegrass, especially on his track As I Roved Out.
While the music stems out of American folk and Bluegrass his voice sounds like those voices heard in the recording of the folk tracks coming out of the UK. He lives in London now. Maybe that’s the excuse.
Had to keep it short this week guys. Momma McD is in town and I gotta show her a good time. SOOOOOO I’ll be taking her to Sam Amidon on Friday Night in SANTA MONICA. COME MEET HER! SHE’S NEAT!
Big Hugs,
Kelly
